Terms of use
Use Rock Hound with care.
Effective 15 July 2026
These terms apply when you use the Rock Hound app and website. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you cannot agree, do not use the service.
Your account and collection
Keep your sign-in secure and provide accurate information. You retain ownership of photographs, notes and other content you add. You give Mashr permission to host, copy, resize and process that content only as needed to operate and secure the service and provide the identification you request.
Public collections and community content
Collections are private by default. If you choose to publish, you give Mashr permission to display and distribute the limited public copy until you make it private or delete it. Do not publish content you lack rights to share, impersonate another person, misrepresent generated content as evidence, or post spam, sexual, violent, hateful, dangerous or unlawful material.
You can report content and block collectors in the app. We may filter, review, restrict or remove public content and suspend public profiles to enforce these terms and the Community Guidelines. We aim to respond to credible safety, copyright and abuse reports promptly.
Identification and safety
Rock Hound uses automated systems and reference data to suggest possible identifications. Results may be incomplete or wrong and are not geological, palaeontological, gemmological, medical, safety or valuation advice. Never use a result to decide whether material is safe to touch, cut, grind, taste, heat, sell or consume. Follow local collecting rules and seek an experienced specialist when the stakes matter.
Acceptable use
Do not misuse the service, interfere with its operation, bypass quotas or security, upload unlawful or harmful content, infringe another person’s rights, or use the service to develop or benchmark a competing identification system without written permission.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue features, impose reasonable usage limits, or update these terms. We aim to keep the service available but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Material changes will be communicated in the app, on this page or by email where appropriate.
Liability and consumer rights
To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided without guarantees beyond those that cannot legally be excluded, and Mashr is not responsible for indirect or consequential loss arising from reliance on an identification. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law, including the Australian Consumer Law where it applies.
Ending use
You may stop using Rock Hound and delete your data or account at any time. We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect users, comply with law or address serious misuse.
